Pelvic Floor health
Pelvic floor health and rehabilitation
The core and the pelvis are at the centre of our body, connecting our upper body to our lower body. Our pelvic area provides our body with stability while allowing movement and flexibility. It holds and protects many of our internal organs. For most of us, our pelvis is one of the most intimate areas of our entire body. Our Chiropractor and pelvic floor specialist can address conditions affecting the pelvic health in men, women, transgender, non-binary, and intersex individuals.
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and other connective tissues that work as a hammock to support the pelvic organs (bladder, uterus and rectum). The pelvic floor muscles coordinate movement during continence, sexual activity, and childbirth.
Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation is a specialized form of therapy designed to assess and treat the muscles, joints, tendons, and nerves of the pelvic region. Individuals who have gone through pregnancy, abdominal surgery, or prostate surgery are more likely to require help with these issues, but they can affect anyone!
Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Can be Beneficial for:
- Urinary incontinence (leakage of urine with coughing, laughing, sneezing, or exercise)
- Overactive bladder (frequent urination, waking at night to urinate, urgency to urinate)
- Fecal incontinence (difficulty holding feces or constipation)
- Pelvic pain (pain in the hips, low back, lower abdomen, tailbone, pelvic region)
- Sexual dysfunction (pain during intercourse)
- Diastasis Recti (DRA)
- Gender affirmation surgical procedures
- Post partum recovery
- Post cesarian scar pain
These concerns can be the result of a pelvic floor that is not working optimally, whether you require help with relaxation of the pelvic floor, strengthening, or both!
Using a combination of hands-on interventions and evidence-based practices, Dr. Kutney, our Chiropractor, will provide an assessment and work with you to create an appropriate treatment plan that suits your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Isn’t some incontinence normal after childbirth and as we age?
Incontinence after childbirth and as people age is very common, but should not be accepted as normal! There are a lot of things we can do to address these issues, and they do not have to be something you experience long term.
When should I look into help with a pelvic floor concern?
Many people feel uncomfortable bringing up these concerns, but they are extremely common! If you’ve been dealing with a pelvic floor concern for a month or longer, we highly recommend speaking with our Chiropractor or another trusted healthcare professional for help.
Can I receive pelvic floor care while I’m pregnant?
Yes! Pelvic floor rehabilitation has been shown to be very helpful during and after pregnancy to address pain and other pelvic symptoms, and is safe for you and your baby. If you have any concerns about this, please let Dr. Kutney know and she will be happy to address things as you are comfortable.
Can I receive treatment and/or assessment during menstruation?
Yes! Our Chiropractor does not perform internal work, all treatment and assessment is done externally, and within your comfort limits.
How soon can I receive pelvic floor rehabilitation postpartum?
Every person’s birth experience is different, and some people may require a few weeks of healing before they feel ready to start care. If you had a caesarian delivery or an episiotomy, you may want to wait for 4-6 weeks to allow the incision to heal.
